Why Bear Cottage?

The reason I continue to fund raise for Bear Cottage is beacause someone very close to my heart spent a significant amount of time there as a patient. In August 2015 my God-Daughter Jessie was born via emergency C-Section. It was realised at one of the routine antenatal appointments that her heart rate was very erratic and they had to deliver her immediately. Up until that moment my best friend Michelle had experienced a "text-book" pregnancy. From the moment Jessie was born, none of our lives would be the same. Jessie was born and was having seizures, and not able to maintain her breathing. She was rushed to NICU and had a mutitude of investigations. Her family were then given the devastating diagnosis - bilateral generalized polymicrogyria. Basically it is a condition where there are many tiny little folds on the surface of the brain - Jessie's version of this was uncompatible with life. Jessie, at the age of 2 weks, was classidied as palliative. She spend the remainder of her short life between hospital, home and Bear Cottage, passing away at the tender age of 8 weeks old. 4 years on, Bear Cottage remain in contact with Jessie's family, inviting them to special rememberance services forbereaved families. The work they do is tireless and priceless.

I'm fundraising for Bear Cottage!

Bear Cottage is the only children’s hospice in NSW, providing respite and end-of-life care for children with terminal illnesses and their families in a medically supported ‘home away from home’. For children in their care there is no happy ending or miracle cure. Bear Cottage gives them as much love, care, laughter, fun, and support, as they need.

Please support me as I fundraise for this amazing cause!
